Myrna E. Helwig, 90, of Hanover, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Gettysburg.



Born on March 13, 1922 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Edna Bechtel Bair, and wife of the late Francis R. Helwig, who passed in 1984.



She was a homemaker and loved mall walking with her friends and going to McDonalds. An avid bowler, she loved to travel, play Bingo and spend time with her family. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church.



She is survived by four daughters, Joanne Meckley and her husband, Jim of Abbottstown, Gloria Gladfelter and her husband, Rich of Thomasville; Brenda Strausbaugh and her husband, Dan and Margaret Groft and her husband, John, all of Hanover; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Harry, Don and Ralph Helwig; four grandchildren, Patti Smith, Robin Gladfelter and Christopher and Samantha Helwig; and two sisters, Catherine Rineman and Emma Hershey.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with The Rev. John D. Schmalhofer serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church.



Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
