Mildred A. Trnka, 96, of SpiriTrust Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace, Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her home.
Born on Thursday, February 10, 1927 in Queens, NY, she was a daughter of the late Alois and Mary Maly Trnka. A graduate of Newtown High School in Elmhurst, NY, Mildred was a retired employee of Citibank where she was one of the first computer programmers, a position she held for her 45 year career. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover, and enjoyed crocheting, baking, trivia games and completing crossword puzzles, but was well-known for her “gourmet Jello making”.
Survivors include two nephews, Warren J. Herman and his wife, Valerie, and Robert F. Herman and his wife, Mary Ellen; a niece, Nanette Savage; and two grand-nephews, Michael Savage and Warren Vale Herman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Trnka; and a sister, Veronica Herman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road in Hanover. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 1 to 4:00 PM Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
