Mildred G. Bennett, 96, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace following a period of declining health.
Born on April 14, 1916 in Midway, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Eva G. Hockensmith Small and wife of the late John A. Bennett, who died in 1970. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite J. Fraumeni and two brothers, Francis J. Small and Leonard J. Small.
A 1934 graduate of Eichelberger High School, she was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Prior to WW II, she was active in the Father Huygen Club and the church’s Dramatic Club, where she met her future husband, John, during one of the productions. She was employed by the C.A. Weber Insurance Agency for many years, and following her retirement, enjoyed her position as an inserter with The Evening Sun. She enjoyed traveling and was a regular participant on AARP trips. A member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hanover Elks #763, Mrs. Bennett enjoyed the theater and dining out prior to the shows.
She is survived by her children, Jane E. Bennett of Hanover and Leonard J. Bennett of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with The Rev. Paul Clark serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with the Rosary being recited at 8 pm.
