Michael R. Zimmerman

Michael R. Zimmerman, 80, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, June 9, 2023 in Harrisonburg, VA.

Born on Thursday, March 4, 1943 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Russell H. and Joyce J. Mann Zimmerman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Joyce E. Zimmerman, who died in 2011. Michael was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as the traffic manager for Hanover Foods after many years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Hanover Republican Club and the VFW Post # 2506 in Hanover. Michael had a fascination for railroads and trains, but his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Ben Zimmerman and his wife, Carrie, of Stanley, VA; two grandsons, Ryan and Bradley Zimmerman; three brothers, James Zimmerman and his wife, Barbara, Daniel Zimmerman and his wife, Lori, and Thomas Zimmerman and his wife, Wendy; three sisters, Cynthia Coppersmith and her husband, Richard, Marcia Plunkert and her husband, Kevin, and Andrea Green and her husband, Scott; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Zimmerman, Bradley Zimmerman, Richard Coppersmith, Kevin Plunkert, Daniel Zimmerman and Thomas Zimmerman. Honorary pallbearers will be James Zimmerman and Scott Green.
