Mertis Leroy Snyder, Sr., 90, of Hanover, husband of Edna Wonder Snyder, died peacefully Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Hanover Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on Thursday, April 17, 1924 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Andrew and Katie Bankert Snyder. The last of his siblings, he was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and an infant son, Donald Snyder.
He was employed by Hanover Hospital in the custodial department for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Harvest Time Temple and was a devoted husband and father, working two jobs for many years to provide for his family.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he was survived by three sons, Mertis Snyder, Jr. and his wife, Linda Faye, Glenn Snyder, all of Hanover and David Snyder and his wife, Ellen of Spring Grove; two daughters, Lynn Shorb and her husband, Terry of Westminster, MD and Vonnie Renshaw and her husband, Albert of Hanover; twelve grandchildren ; 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 pm Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Harvest Time Temple with The Rev. Fred Mummert officiating. Burial will follow in York Road Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church.
