Maurice R. Spielman, 84, of Hanover, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
Born on Saturday, July 11, 1931 in Hagerstown, MD, he was a son of the late Albert A. and Daisy Hull Spielman. He was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 48 years, Doris Topper Spielman, who died in 2001; a brother, Charles Spielman; and two sisters, Alice Schleigh and Helen Yingling.
Mr. Spielman was a retired employee of Elsner Engineering Works, Inc. with more than 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was a life member of the Clearview Fire Company No. 3 and the Grangeville Fire Company. He was also a member of the York County Fireman’s Association. He served as a Sergeant with the US Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey A. Spielman and his wife, Shari, and James Spielman and his wife, Tess, all of Hanover; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one step-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
