Maureen S. Overbaugh

Maureen S. Overbaugh, 90, formerly of Hanover, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Manor Care York – South.

Maureen was born on October 24, 1919 in Belfast, Ireland to Edward and Jane Slevin. When she was only a few years old, her mother traveled from Ireland to the United States with her children to join her husband, who had immigrated earlier to find work. They initially lived in south Philadelphia before settling in Hanover. Maureen graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy in McSherrystown.

On September 16, 1950, Maureen married Jerry Overbaugh and they began their long, happy life together. They had three children: Jane of Santa Ynez; CA; Jim, and his wife Sue, of York; and Julie of Seattle, WA. After staying at home to raise her children, Maureen worked as a teller at National Central Bank, eventually being promoted to head teller.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents, her sister Betty Mumma, and a brother Bill Slevin. In addition to her three children, she is survived by a sister, Eileen Gingrow; a brother Ed Slevin; two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews that she remained close to.

Maureen enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, vacations at the beach and relaxing on her porch in the evenings after work. Ten years ago she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and ultimately required specialized care. The family would like to thank the staff of Country Meadows, Manor Care South and Heartland Hospice for the care they provided over the past five years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, by Msgr. Hugh Overbaugh and concelebrated by The Rev. Timothy D. Marcoe. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 3544 N. Progress Avenue - Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9638.
