Mary Emma Turner, a longtime resident of Detroit, Michigan passed away peacefully and entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, April 19, 2021, at WellSpan Hospital in York, PA with her daughter Joy and grandchildren by her side. Mary was born on Thursday, August 13, 1936, in Floyd County, GA, Mary was a daughter of the late Robert Stone Heard and Rilla Cooper Heard. Mary was also preceded in death by her six siblings, Robert Jr., Kate, James, Nelvin, Ruben, and Ophelia Heard.

In 1956 Mary graduated from Howard High School in Chattanooga, TN. In 1968 Mary received a diploma from St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, MI after completing an 18-month Surgical Scrub Technician program. Mary worked as a Surgical Scrub Technician at several different hospitals throughout the country until her retirement (June 2015).

Survivors of Mary include five children, Brigitte Bauman, of Detroit, MI, Mike McClardy and his wife, Arvetta, of Murfreesboro, TN, Mark McClardy, of Redondo Beach, CA, Joy Beasley, of Hanover, PA, and LaRoy Turner and his wife, Lana, of Plainfield, IN; several grandchildren: Sydney McClardy, Terrance Cooley, Ebony Williams (Addison), Phillip Bauman, Shaun McClardy, Derek McClardy (Sarah), Jonathan Beasley (Jane), Branden, Jameer, Antoine, and Dominic; a brother, Glover Heard (Karen); numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a host of friends and co-works including three lifelong friendships, PJ Jackson, Rosie Draper, and Gary Reid.

An informal burial/interment ceremony will be held at Mary’s gravesite at 2 pm on May 1, 2021 at the Grand Lawn Cemetery, 23501 Grand River Ave., Detroit, MI 48219. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance will be limited to 25 persons.
