Mary C. Staub, 67, of Hanover, passed away peacefully into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 with her family by her side.
Born on Friday, November 18, 1949 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Bernard J. and Felicitas R. “Biscay” Orndorff Staub. She had 16 years of Catholic education that included Annunciation BVM School, Delone Catholic High School and the former College of Steubenville (OH).
Mary was a retired educator, having taught at Annunciation and Sacred Heart schools for many years. She was an active member of Annunciation BVM Church where she served as a lector, Extraordinary Minister, and as an usher. She was a former vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus in McSherrystown, and was a member of the Hanover Republican Club, Loyal Order of Moose McSherrystown Lodge #720, SAVES, and the Notre Dame Club of Gettysburg. She was an avid Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Mary was a loving and giving aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include six brothers, Lawrence “Tiss” Staub and his wife, Patti, Mark Staub and his wife, Margaret, Brian “Pic” Staub and his wife, Brenda, David “Ute” Staub and his wife, Sharon, Patrick “Whitehead” Staub and his wife, Kim, and Barry “Gus” Staub; three sisters, Sylvia Yingling, Sharon Roth and her husband, Tom, and Ann Frederick and her husband, Grant; a sister-in-law, Annette Staub; 22 nieces and nephews; and 24 great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Philip B. Staub; and a brother-in-law, Bill Yingling.
A memorial Mass will be said at 10 am Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Annunciation Blessed Virgin Mary Church by The Rev. Charles L. Persing. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Panebaker Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A recitation of the rosary will follow at 8 pm.
