Mary Lou Smith

Mary Lou Smith, 90, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Wellspan York Hospital with her family by her side.

Born on Friday, May 6, 1932 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late James William and Ethel Adeline Hirt Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Smith; and five siblings, Cyril, Marie (Sissy), Marion, Phillip, and James. Mary Lou was a 1951 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and was a member of St. Ann’s Byzantine Catholic Church. She spent most of her working years at the A&P Supermarket and was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Surviving are her six children, Tess Fuhrman and her husband, Greg, Scott Smith and his wife, Sue, Jeff Smith and his wife, Lisa, Jim Smith and his wife, Diane, Marie Hockensmith and her husband, Larry “Hock,” and Ann Smith and her fiancé, Justin; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Ethel Ernst, and Barbie Bixler.

A service will be held on December 17, 2022 at 11 AM at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover with the Rev. C. Anthony Miller officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Annunciation BVM Church Cemetery.
