Mary S. Shoemaker, 96, of Homewood at Plum Creek, loving wife of Fred H. Shoemaker, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Born on Saturday, February 25, 1922 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Jerome L. and Lottie Meckley Small. Mary was a member of Grace United Church of Christ and the Hanover Elks BPOE #763 Auxiliary for many years. She was always generous to her family, church and community organizations. Whenever there was a church or community activity that needed her kitchen, knitting, crocheting, quilting and needlework talents, she was there to lend a hand.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Shoemaker and his wife, Shoko, of Washougal, WA and Fred B. Shoemaker and his wife, Cecilia, of York; a daughter, Judith A. Foreman and her husband, William, of Hanover; a sister, Nadine Small Hollinger of Myrtle Beach, SC; ten grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 77 years, who died in 2016, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Robert and Burnell Small.
The funeral will be held at 1 PM Monday, July 30, 2018 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek with The Rev. Dr. Joel B. Hummel officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover and one hour prior to the service on Monday at Homewood Chapel.
