Mary Stambaugh Shafer, 94, of Hanover, wife of John D. Shafer, Sr. with whom she shared 73 years of marriage, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Homewood at Plum Creek.Mrs. Shafer was born April 23, 1914 in Hanover, the daughter of the late Harry and Addie Underwood Stambaugh. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Randolph Underwood Stambaugh.In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Ann Shafer Schwarz of Weston, MA, and Jane Shafer Schott of Hanover; a son, John D. Shafer, Jr. of Duxbury, MA; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary Shafer may be made to Friends of the Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover, PA 17331 or to Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
