Mary E. “Ping” Little, 91, of Hanover, died Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Saturday, June 27, 1925, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Esther E. Bixler Lawrence. Mary was the wife of the late Donald J. Little, who died in 2007. Together they shared over 61 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John “Jim” F. Lawrence.
A 1942 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, Mary spent her life in employment that involved interaction with people. She worked for JC Penney Department Store for 15 years. She later worked in the office of Hanover Shoe/CJ Clark for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Mary devoted countless hours to her beloved church, St. Vincent de Paul. She dedicated more than 33 years in the rectory office attending to matters of the parish.
Mary loved her family and was extremely loyal to her friends and her faith. She was kind and generous, always thinking of others and how she could help to improve their lives. Her charitable spirit extended to all she knew. She was a caregiver to many, giving her time and her love to anyone in need.
Survivors include one son, Stephen T. Little and his wife, Stevie, of Hanover; a daughter, JoAnn E. Plechaty and her husband, George, of Honolulu, HI; four grandchildren: Leslie Little, Corinne Zatkos, and Jonathan and Joshua Plechaty; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her aunt, Mary Bolin; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Lawrence of High Pointe, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with a recitation of the rosary at 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 23, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Church with The Rev. Michael P. Reid, II serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
