Mary Alice Gallagher Kaufman, 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in Hanover, PA. She was the loving wife of 53 years to the late Carl L. Kaufman.
Born December 27, 1919 in Uhrichsville, OH, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Veda Almyra Iler Gallagher.
Mary was an accomplished artist and poet. She received special recognition for her work several times, including first prize for her sculptures at the Tavistock Exhibition in 1964. She also displayed her art work at The State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg and the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. She self-published two volumes of poetry and has an archive of short stories of her life.
Mary is survived by six children, who love each other as much as they loved her: Bonnie Thomen and her husband, Bob of Jacksonville, FL, Jacques Kaufman and his wife, Shelley Lay of Binghamton, NY, Barb Boyer and her husband, Dan of Hanover, PA, Bev Kaufman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Carl Kaufman and his wife, Annie of Kingsley, PA and Bette Jane Rolli and her husband, Ron of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Subber and her husband, Richard of Deptford, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, c/o Carl Kaufman, 8235 Weston Road, Kingsley, PA 18826, for the purpose of sending care packages to soldiers deployed overseas.
