Marvin E. King

Marvin Eldridge King, 93, loving husband of Louise Pratt King, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Homewood at Plum Creek .



Born on Sunday, April 30, 1922 in Coalwood, WV, he was the son of Loman David King and Caroline Moorefield King. Marvin and Louise were married on February 17, 1943, the day before he left to join the Army Air Corps. Louise followed him around the country to more than a dozen military facilities where he trained to become a bomber pilot. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant and later as a Captain, was the pilot of a B-26 Bomber known as the “Bad Penny”, and flew 26 missions over Germany in the last months of World War II.



Returning from the war, Marvin and Louise began a family of two sons and, some years later, two daughters (affectionately known as “the grandchildren”.) Marvin had a 30 year career with Motors Insurance Corporation, a subsidiary of General Motors, initially in the Roanoke, VA area and later in Rockville, MD., where both Marvin and Louise were active members of the Rockville United Methodist Church for many years. They retired to The Villages in Central Florida in 1989, enjoyed many years of active retirement, and served as leaders of the Lay Ministry at Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park. They relocated to Hanover in 2004, “while we still have most of our marbles”, as they were known to say, to be near their family.



In addition to his wife of 72 years, survivors include two sons, Randy (Ginny Mattern) King of New Bern, NC and Mike (Jane Schussler) King of York; two daughters, Janet (Marshall Clayshulte) Correll of Las Cruces, NM and JoAnne (Bob) Weatherholtz of Westminster, MD. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.



The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, with The Rev. Joel B. Hummel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
