Marvin Charles Iwerks, 92, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born in Livingston, Montana, he was reared in South Dakota, and was a son of the late, U.C. and Etta McElvain Iwerks. He was also preceded in death by a son, James M. Iwerks; three brothers; and a sister.
Mr. Iwerks received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1949. He retired in 1983 from AT&T Bell Laboratories where he was an electrical engineer for 34 years. He served with the US Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hanover and was a former member of the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, MD, where he was very actively involved.
Survivors include his wife with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on December 24th, Nedra Simmons Iwerks; two daughters, Virginia Iwerks Peterman, and her husband Ronald, of Boiling Springs, and Diane Iwerks MacMillan and her husband Kenneth, of Fort Wayne, IN; a son, Glenn Simmons Iwerks and his wife Sydne, of Hamilton, VA; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday, January 2, 2015 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek with The Rev. Joel B. Hummel officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
