Marvin H. Houck, 78, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at his home.
Born on Friday, October 2, 1936 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Ralph G. and Alice May Bair Houck. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Martz Houck, who died in 2005. He was a 1954 graduate of Eichelberger High School.
Mr. Houck was a dedicated employee of Doubleday/Bookspan in Hanover for 32 years and was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. He attended the Bethel Assembly of God in Littlestown and was a former volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver for the McSherrystown Fire Company. An avid Penn State, Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan, he had coached in the PeeWee Baseball League in McSherrystown and also enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include his wife of nine years, Lillie May (Doss) Houck; five children, Dennis Houck and his companion, Rita, of Thomasville, Judith Hershey and her husband, Ben, of McSherrystown, Trina Houck and her companion, Tim, of Chambersburg, Valerie Houck and her companion, Craig, of Thomasville, and Teresa Hershey and her husband, Tim, of Hanover; four step-children, Wayne Dehoff and his wife, Mary, of Shawnee, OK, Pamela Dehoff of Hagerstown, MD, Karen Fish and her husband, David, of Shepherdstown, WV, and Steven Dehoff and his wife, Sue, of Shippensburg; a sister, Mary Ellen Wintrode and her husband, John, of Hanover; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a niece.
The funeral will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Bethel Assembly of God, 1125 Frederick Pike, Littlestown with The Rev. Garry L. Sheaffer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover and from 12 to 1 pm Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hershey Hope Lodge; 125 Lucy Avenue; Hummelstown, PA 17036.
