Martha S. Ditzler, 98, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community.
Born July 25, 1914 in Adams County, she was a daughter of the late Vitus and Margaret Murren Smith, and was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 74 years, Harold E. Ditzler, who died in 2008; five brothers, Joseph, Claude, Bernard, Eugene and Stephen Smith; two sisters, Cecilia Staub, and Margaret Livelsberger; and one granddaughter. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary, and was a retired cafeteria worker at the St. Joseph Catholic School. Martha was a former Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include a son, Benedict F. Ditzler and his wife, Judy, of New Oxford; eight daughters, Margaret Zumbo and her husband, Erminio, of Palmyra, Madeline Small and her husband, Larry, of Purcellville, VA, Anita Klunk of Hanover, Angela Lehman and her husband, John Thomas, of Blowing Rock, NC, Marie Saghy and her husband, Phillip, of Woodbine, MD, Mildred Thomassy and her husband, Jerome, of Hanover, Mary Clabaugh and her husband, Donald, of Bonneauville, Joan Kuhn and her husband, Michael, of Elizabethtown; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover by The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons and The Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held at the church 6-8:00 pm Tuesday and 10-11:00 am Wednesday. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 pm Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA 17331 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
