Mark Steven Scherer, 58, of Hanover, husband of Dawn Steirer-Scherer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center while surrounded by his family.
Born on Sunday, July 2, 1961 in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Marie Scherer. A 1980 graduate of Lansdowne High School, he was an auto mechanic for more than 40 years and later became the owner and operator of Automotive Diagnostic and Repair on Baltimore Street in Hanover 15 years ago. Gifted with his hands, he was known to restore pinball machines and arcade games. Mark was a loving grandfather and took great pleasure spending time with his family. He lived an active lifestyle which included playing soccer and Fortnite with the grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to his favorite places: New Orleans, Puerto Rico and the Hudson Valley of New York.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 35 years, are three children, Spencer Aaron (Erin Schuman) Scherer of Dover, Ian Joseph (Auri) Scherer of Eldersburg, MD, Sarah “Abby” (Andrew Kronmeyer) Scherer of Hanover; seven grandchildren, Ethan Andrew Scherer, Caleb Michael Scherer, Clara Noelle Scherer, Jasper Aaron Scherer, Lucien Graham Jourdan, Ezra James Kronmeyer and Salem Grey Kronmeyer; three brothers, John (Lisa) Scherer, Timothy (Nancy) Scherer, all of Baltimore, MD, and Matthew Scherer of Plainfield, IN; a sister, Terri Breitschwerdt of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Gregory A. Rapp officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
