Marie Jean Startzel

Marie Jean Startzel, 99, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2023 at Rest Haven- York.

Born on Thursday, September 18, 1924 in Shamokin, she was a daughter of the late Jonathan and Marguerite Borgetti Brightbill. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Edward Startzel; four siblings, Jonathan Brightbill, Jr., Raymond Brightbill, Nancy Wolfe, and Margaret Brightbill; and a grandson, Joseph Alan Startzel. Marie was a graduate of Coal Township High School in Shamokin and worked in the cafeteria for Hanover Public Schools until her retirement. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the Anthracite Club of Hanover, and was very active with the women's group at the church. Marie enjoyed crafting, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three children, Robert Startzel and his wife, Susan, Christine Startzel, and James Startzel and his wife, Lisa; two grandchildren, Katie Wolfgang and her husband, Dustin, and Kurtis Startzel and his wife, Colbi; four great grandchildren, Corbyn, Layna, and Eivyn Wolfgang, and Lennox Startzel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh Street, Hanover. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
