Marie V. Helwig Cangelosi

Marie V. Helwig Cangelosi, 90, of Spring Grove, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at York Hospital.

Born on Wednesday, July 15, 1925 in Hunterstown, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Sarah Group Thomas. She was also preceded in death by a husband, James P. “Jake” Helwig, her husband of 53 years, who died in 2001; a grandson, Shawn Trish; two sisters; and one brother.

Marie was a homemaker and a server and hostess at several area restaurants. She was a member of St. Paul The Pines Lutheran Church in New Chester, and enjoyed music and dancing. She loved baking cookies and pies, but will always be remembered for her coconut cakes.

Survivors include her husband of nine years, John A. Cangelosi; six children, Earl “Donnie” Mummert of York, Maxine P. Mosley and her husband, Doug, Vicki L. Trish, all of Hanover, Roxanne M. Sitler and her husband, Steve, of Red Lion, Bobbi L. Altland of Hampton, and Scott J. Helwig and his wife, Deb, of Hanover; a sister, Dolores Shupe of Gettysburg; a brother, Edgar Thomas of Hanover; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Benson Paull officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul The Pines Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
