Marian E. Bennett

Marian E. Bennett, 96, of Hanover, died peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the home she cherished which she and her loving husband Richard built more than 63 years ago.

Born on Thursday, May 19, 1921 in Littlestown, she was a daughter of the late Allen T. and Syrena I. Collins Eckenrode. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, C. Richard Bennett, who died Decemeber 3, 1999; and two sisters, Evelyn Fraser and Doris L. Stormes. As a devout Catholic, she was a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Parish and was a fervent prayer of the Rosary. She also volunteered at the St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop for more than 18 years.

Marian worked various secretarial jobs in her younger years, before marriage and children. In the 1950’s and 60’s, she developed a well known custom drapery business for over 16 years. In her later years, she worked in the office of the B.C. Schuchart Oil Company. She enjoyed sewing and knitting; however, her primary joy came from taking care of her family, whom she loved dearly.

Survivors include her four children, Rebecca J. Bennett, Michael T. Bennett, Gregory J. Bennett all of Hanover, and Richard A. Bennett and his wife, Carol, of Vero Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Lisa Yingling, and Bradley, Robert, and Adam Bennett; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. Vincent dePaul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover with The Rev. Michael P. Reid, II celebrating. A private burial for immediate family members will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held, at the church, one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank Suzi, Heather, Steph and the other caregivers who helped their mother continue living in her home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
