Margarethe Josefa Staub, 71, of Hanover, beloved wife of Eugene Clair Staub, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at her home after a brief illness in her four year battle with cancer.
Born on Wednesday, July 8, 1946 in Linz, Austria, she was a daughter of the late Curtis A. and Margarethe Rosa Engel Neiderer. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Deborah Neiderer. In 2009, Marg retired from Legacy Athletic following 18 years of service, and had previously worked for Freeman Shoe and Clarks Americas, Inc.
Marg loved to spend time in her gardens, tending to the bushes and her flowers. She had a love for animals, especially cats, and would make sure that feral cats were taken care of. She enjoyed playing cards and was skilled at Pitch and 500 Rum, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Gifted with a sense of humor, she always tried to bring laughter to the most awkward situations. She was a devoted Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, a Baltimore Orioles fan and any team that played in Chicago.
In addition to her husband with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 23, survivors include two sons, Mitchel Staub and Gregory Staub and his wife, Janice, all of Hanover; five grandchildren, Briann and Kelsey Staub and Amanda, Aaron and Andreana Staub; a sister, Susan Bechtel of Hanover; a nephew, Will Bechtel and a niece, Deb Bechtel and her son Troy Wagaman, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Conewago Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with the recitation of the rosary being at 8 pm.
