Margaret "Margie" Kehr Brooks

Margaret “Margie” Kehr Brooks, 98, entered into her Heavenly home on Sunday, December 17, 2023. In her last years, she resided at SpiriTrust Lutheran Retirement Village in York.

Born on Friday, February 20, 1925 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Annie Stauffer Kehr. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert “Bob” Brooks, who died in 1980; seven brothers, Paul, Richard, Raymond, Glenn, Leroy, Donald and Dean Kehr; and two sisters, Martha Hoover and Helena Hannigan.

Margaret was a member of St. Paul’s (Broadway) Lutheran Church in Hanover. After her retirement from Hanover Shoe, she provided transportation for cancer patients to their treatments in York. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, assisted with PAL lunches at St. Paul’s and was a member of the Lioness Club of Hanover. Margaret loved traveling with her special friend, Norma Mummert.

Survivors include three sons, Robert “Bobby” (Donna) Brooks of Spring Hill, TN, Barry (Nancy) Brooks, and Stephen “Steve” (Karen) Brooks, all of Hanover; a brother, Linwood Kehr of Hanover; two sisters, Mary Chronister of Fort Myers, FL and Jessie Mae Riley of Dover; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 22, 2023 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover with Deacon Jan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
