Mae Alice Unger, 79, of McSherrystown, loving companion of Harold Becker, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Hanover Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born in Biglerville on February 5, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Crum Russell. She was a member of the Hanover Home Association and the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved playing Bingo, and putting puzzles together.
In addition to her companion of nearly 37 years, she is survived by her five sons, Raymond Unger and his wife, Jane of Fairfield, Terry L. Unger, Sr. and his wife, Amanda of York, Thomas E. Unger and Harold Unger and his wife, Lillie all of Gettysburg and Stanley Unger and his wife, Lisa of Hanover; three daughters, Linda Cool and her husband, Sam of Fairfield, Betty Lou Guahana and her husband, Krishan and Janet Wyman and her fiancé, Paul Strite, all of Hanover; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond D. “Bud” Russell and his wife, Mary of Harrisburg; four sisters, Almeda Wolford and her husband, Brett of Hanover, Rose Weaver of McSherrystown and Rosetta Geiselman of Georgia; and a step-brother, Kenneth Sanders and his wife, Audrey of Gettysburg. She is also survived by Harold’s two daughters, Angela Ayer and her husband, Ken of Hanover and Melissa Imashana of Ohio. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis W. Unger and Steven Unger, a sister, Virginia Laughman, and infant twin brothers.
The funeral will be held at 10 am Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Kenneth Heasley officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens, after which a reception will be held, in observance of what would have been her 80th birthday, at the American Legion. The viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
