Mabel Ellen Cool Garrett, 98, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Sunday, September 14, 1924 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Clarence David Cool and Pauline Ethel Miller Cool. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clyde L. Garrett, who died in 2016; a sister, Viola Ingram; and brothers, Norman E. Cool and Edward D. Cool, John L. Cool and Guy F. Cool.
Mabel was a former employee of Snyder’s of Hanover and later retired from Doubleday Publishing. She was a life member of the Parkville Fire Company and was also a member of St. Paul’s (Dubs) Union Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and on various committees, and the AARP # 2812. She was also a volunteer with the Hanover Area Council of Churches and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Dwight L. Garrett and his wife, Pamela, of McSherrystown; a daughter, Deborah S. Shaffer and her companion, Rodney Bixler, of Hanover; four grandchildren, Todd A. Garrett of Virginia Beach, VA, Nicole L. Mummert, Amber T. Dubs and Benjamin K. Shaffer all of Hanover; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s (Dubs) Church Cemetery.
