Lydia M. Dickensheets, 91, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.

Born on Thursday, June 29, 1922 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Annie Sell Folmer. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Sterling W. Dickensheets, who died in 1984; a son, Sterling Gary Dickensheets, who died in 1958; and her brothers and sisters, Jesse, Charles, John “Bill”, Henry and Catherine Folmer, Elizabeth Kuhn and Anna Koehler. She was a member of the Eichelberger High School Class of 1939, where she served on that class’s reunion committee for many years.

Mrs. Dickensheets was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Altar Guild, Church Council and the Worship and Music committees. She also helped begin the church’s bereavement lunches. She was a volunteer with the Hospitality Shop at Hanover Hospital, was one of the first volunteers with Meals on Wheels, and was later an active volunteer with PAL lunches. She had a servant heart and was a wonderful example of what a generous spirit can accomplish.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Thursday in the church parlor.
