Louise Witmer, 92, of Hanover, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born on Thursday, April 16, 1925 in Swan Lake, Idaho, she was a daughter of the late Heber H. and Reda Ricks Allen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Witmer, who died in 1983; a son, Gerry A. Witmer; a daughter, Julie I. Livermore; a granddaughter, Stephanie M. Witmer; a great-granddaughter, Casey L. Witmer; and eight siblings. Louise was a 1943 graduate of Downey High School in Idaho, was a former employee of Doubleday Publishing in Hanover and later retired after working many years as the cook for the Mark Stevens Restaurant and Motor Inn.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hanover Ward, she was very active in many church activities, including being the church organist for many years, and serving as an ordinance worker in the Washington, DC Temple for 12 years. Gifted with her hands, she could quite often be seen making hundreds of quilts for gifts and charitable donations.
Survivors include two children, Linda A. Redding and her companion, Gary Knott, of Columbia, MD, and Robert C. Witmer of West Jordan, Utah; a daughter-in-law, Donna J. Witmer of New Oxford; four grandchildren, Sarah L. Redding, Katherine M. Redding and her husband, Tom Hunter, Ian M. Redding and his fiancée, Whitney Brown, Delenn N. Witmer; a great-grandson, Anthony Fletcher; a great-great-granddaughter, Raven Fletcher; a sister, Eunice Lindblom; a brother, Preston Allen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 9 to 10 am Saturday at the church. A funeral will follow at 10 am Saturday, August 26, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1170 Kohler Mill Road, New Oxford. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
