Louis A. Hoover

Louis A. Hoover, 84, of New Oxford, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community.

Born on October 7, 1926 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Theodore Hoover, Sr. and the late Mabel Smith Hoover and husband of 59 years to the late Helen Gagin Hoover, who died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Hoover and Theodore Hoover, Jr.

A graduate of Glen Burnie (MD) High School, he served in United States Navy during World War II. He spent his career in the engineering division of Westinghouse Electric, Aerospace Division in Baltimore, before retiring and moving to Pennsylvania.

Survivors include a daughter, Harriet L. Gillan of Hampstead, MD; two granddaughters, Elizabeth “Beth” C. Gillan of Baltimore and Margaret “Maggie” A. Gillan of Hampstead; one sister, Ellen “Susie” Phebus of Catonsville, MD; two brothers, William Hoover and his wife, Nancy of Glen Burnie and Donald Hoover and his wife, Viva of TN.

The funeral will be held at 6 pm Monday, September 26, 2011 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Merv Wunderlich officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
