Lorn D. Strickler, 83, of Hanover, beloved husband of Marlene R. Sponseller Strickler, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born on Wednesday, September 12, 1934 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Lawrence T. and Effie M. Bish Strickler. A 1952 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he served with the US Air Force in Morocco during the Korean War. Lorn will be long remembered as an avid train collector and owner and operator of Strickler’s Hobby Shop where he had worked since the age of 12. He was a member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion American Legion Post #14 and the Train Collector’s Association.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 36 years, is a son, Lon D. Strickler of Hanover; two grandchildren, Matthew Strickler and Adrienne Reynolds; a great-granddaughter, Kaylie; his sister, Lorraine Staub of Hanover; three step-children, Stephen L. Rebert of Hilton Head, SC, Karen K. Brooks and her husband, Stephen, of Spring Grove, and Rene R. Camacho and her husband, David, of Port St. Lucie, FL; five step-grandchildren, Andrew, Stephen, Wesley, David Carlos and Daniel; eight step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.
At his request, a private service will be held with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Hanover Hall and the Visiting Nurses Association for the care that was shown to Lorn during his illness.
