Loretta Barnes, 68, of Hanover, beloved wife of Markham D. Barnes, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at UPMC Hanover.
Born on Saturday, June 18, 1955 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Glenn Carlton and Catherine Alberta Krug Bixler. She was also preceded in death by her two infant sons, Brian C. and Robert M. Barnes; and two brothers, Glenn and Sam Bixler. Loretta was a member at St. David’s Lutheran Church where she previously served on counsel and was one of the past Sunday school teachers. She was a 1973 graduate of South Western High School and received her nursing degree from Hanover Public School District Practical Nursing Program in 1976. Loretta worked for Hanover Hospital for many years.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of nearly 40 years, are two sons, Kevin M. Barnes and his wife, Joan M., of Abbottstown, and Matthew D. Barnes and his wife, Casey L., of New Oxford; three grandchildren, Levi B., Madelyn G., and Ryleigh M. Barnes, all of New Oxford; three siblings, David Bixler and his wife, Mary Ann, of Abbottstown, Linda Cromer and her husband, Rodney, of Cosby, TN, and Lucy Barnhart and her husband, Wayne, of Hanover; her sister in law, Barbara Bixler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May, 23, 2024 at St David’s Lutheran Church, 1032 Musselman Road, Hanover. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens.
