Lester W. “Les” Kerchner, 89, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
Born on Friday, December 16, 1927 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Ralph W. and Lillie Cromer Kerchner and step-son of the late, Viola Foreman Kerchner. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Pauline M. Waltemyer Kerchner, who died in 2015; a grandson, Richard Kerchner; his brother, Richard H. Kerchner; and his sister, Miriam M. Sterner.
A dedicated employee of Keystone-Seneca Wire Cloth, he had previously worked for Hanover Wire Cloth. Les was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church. A good provider, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also an avid Ham Radio operator.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra K. Masenheimer of Hanover; two sons, Terry L. Kerchner and his wife, Dalia, of New Oxford, and Lynn L. Kerchner of Duluth, GA; two grandchildren, Valerie Mantz and Ian Kerchner; and two great-grandsons, Dalton and Caleb Mantz.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, with The Rev. Paula Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Jacobs (Stone) Church Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service.
