Leroy "Bud" Little

Leroy D. “Bud” Little, 98, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Hanover Hospital.

Born on Monday, October 29, 1917 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Luther D. and Laura Smith Little. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mildred Garrett Little, who died on May 5, 2015; four sisters, Gladys A. Little, Grace E. Little, Anna M. Ports and Marguerite L. Little; a nephew, Ed Ports; and a brother-in-law, George Ports. He was a 1935 graduate of Eichelberger High School and was the owner and operator of L.D. Little and Son Meats. He was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Bud enlisted with the National Guard in 1940 and entered the US Army in 1941 where he served with the Horse Cavalry until Pearl Harbor was attacked. During World War II he served in the European Theatre where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the 104th Cavalry Association, VFW Post #2506, the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, AmVets Post #22, Hanover Elks BPOE #763, the Hanover Republican Club, where he served as president in 1974 and the McSherrystown Home Association. He was also a member of the Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM and the Zembo Shrine. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing, and playing “Pitch” with his “old buddies”.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Little Lesher and her husband, Fred, of Hanover, and Nancy L. Payne and her husband, William, of Media; three grandchildren, Scott A. Lesher and his wife, Deanna, Sheri L. Lesher, and Leann J. Payne; one great-grandson, Christopher S. Lesher; a nephew, Al Ports and his wife, Candy, of Romney, NH; three grand-nephews and one grand-niece.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek with The Rev. Joel B. Hummel officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 am prior to the service at the chapel and at a reception immediately following the service. Burial will be held privately in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
