Leo A. Staub, 94, of Silver Spring, MD and formerly of Hanover, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at home.
Born on Tuesday, November 15, 1921 in McSherrystown, he was a son of the late Felix V. and E. Catherine Smith Staub and was the husband of the late E. Jeanette Redding Staub, his wife of 43 years, who died on June 5, 1994. The last of his family of ten, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph J. Staub, Bernard V. Staub, Robert A. Staub, John A. Staub and Felix V. Staub, Jr.; and four sisters, Mary Catherine Henry, Helena E. Staub, C. Gertrude Brandenburg and Maria P. Harman.
Leo was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church, and was a graduate of the former Central Catholic High School and Thompson Business College of York. A US Army veteran of World War II, he served for more than two years in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in Harrisburg, and held memberships in the Knights of Columbus, McSherrystown Loyal Order of Moose # 720, Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 and the Adams County Historical Society.
Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn J. Sabina of Silver Spring, MD; a grandson, Mark A. Sabina and his wife, Ruby; a great-grandson, Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 am Friday, July 29, 2016 at the St. Vincent dePaul Church celebrated by The Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, and at the church one hour prior to the Mass. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
