Kenneth W. Ehrhart, M.D., 83, of Hanover entered into God's eternal care 7:41 a.m. Friday morning, April 27, 2007 at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Hykes Peg Ehrhart. Born in Glenville on January 17, 1924, Dr. Ehrhart was the son of the late Rev. Kenneth S. and Mary Barbehenn Ehrhart. He graduated from Codorus Township High School in 1942 and attended Gettysburg College for two semesters before being inducted into the Army in February 1943. After six months at Camp Hood, TX in a Tank Destroyer Unit, he was transferred to the Army Specialized Training Program and assigned to take basic engineering courses at Michigan State University and later to the University of Michigan enrolling in Pre-Med. The Army then assigned him to the Medical School of the University of Cincinnati beginning October 1945. He completed one semester while in the Army until his military discharge in Feb. 1946. Dr. Ehrhart continued school under the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1949. He interned at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, DC and the following year, was licensed to practice medicine in PA. Dr. Ehrhart entered General Practice in association with John Menges, M.D. in New Oxford at which time he became a member of the medical staffs of both Gettysburg and Hanover Hospitals. He left New Oxford in 1956 to take a four year residency in Pathology at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, DE. Following certification by the American College of Pathology, he returned to Hanover as the first full time certified Pathologist. A position held until his retirement June 9, 1989. In the early 1980's, Dr. Ehrhart had also served as Chief of Staff at Hanover General Hospital. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Dr. Ehrhart enjoyed playing golf and tennis as a member of the Hanover Country Club as well as playing bridge and listening to classical music. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children son Kenneth Ehrhart, Jr. of Lancaster, daughters Sandra and husband Jay Cromer of Hanover, Terry and husband Ray Harbert of Hagerstown, MD, sons Tom and wife Bobbi Mann of Columbia, SC, Douglas and wife Laine Mann of Jacksonville, Fl, 9 grandchildren Alex and Austin Ehrhart, Shaun Cromer, Brandi Baughter, Justin Harbert, Courtney Jones, Travis and Jared Mann, Karen Coggins, 8 great grandchildren, and 4 brothers Sydney Ehrhart of New Oxford, Carl Ehrhart of New Jersey, Richard Ehrhart of Dover, and David Ehrhart of Palmyra, PA. A viewing will be held Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover. His funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.
