Kenneth E. Beard
Kenneth Eugene Beard, 89, of Hanover, died on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Transitions Healthcare in Gettysburg.
Born on Monday, November 14, 1932 in Littlestown, he was a son of the late Simon and Emma Jane Pitzer Hess. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Marie Matthews Beard, who died in 1996; two sons, Michael and Andrew Beard; seven brothers, Simon, Irvin, Roy, Robert, William, John and Thomas Beard; and a sister, Margaret Garrett. Kenneth was a former employee of Fleming Foods and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Teamsters Union of Central Pennsylvania. An avid stock car racing fan, he owned a stock car that was raced by Kenny Slaybaugh.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hitchens and her husband, Douglas, of Blades, DE; four sons, David Beard and his wife, Tina, of York, Patrick Beard and his wife, Marcia, of Abbottstown, Kevin Beard of Seven Valleys, and Bernard Beard and his wife, Kimberly, of Thomasville; three brothers, Raymond, Francis and Freddy Beard; and five sisters, Viola Haines, Goldie Boyd, Shelby Forbes, Shirley Bonner and Helen Toporzycki; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
As per Kenneth’s wishes, no service is planned.
