Kathy Lee (Garrett) Hankey Chronister, 68, was received into the loving arms of Jesus, on January 6, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born on December 19, 1955, in Hanover, PA, to the late Dean and “Rosie” (Kidwell) Garrett. Kathy graduated from Hanover High School in 1974. She worked much of her life as a church secretary and served as a Stephen Minister. Kathy was preceded in death by her late husband James A. Hankey with whom she shared 30 loving years of marriage and raised two sons, James II, and Joshua Hankey. Kathy married the second love of her life Neil Chronister in 2015.
Kathy is survived by her husband Neil, her brother Dean Garrett II and his wife Lori, her son James Hankey II (wife Molly) and their two children Joelle and Chaya, son Joshua Hankey (wife Stephanie)their two children Joshua Jr. and Emily, Neil’s two sons and three grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Kathy will be remembered for her caring heart and her strong faith in God and prayer. She was a devoted Christian, most recently attending Gettysburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, quilting, knitting, baking, American history, and Colonial Williamsburg. She was a member of the Hanover Area Historical Society, a Daughter of the American Revolution, and Order of the Eastern Star.
A service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10 AM at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc, 311 Broadway, Hanover. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Gettysburg Baptist Church, 95 Fairview Drive, Gettysburg, and at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
