Justin J. Smith, 82, beloved husband of Mari Shimazaki Smith of Glen Rock, entered into God’s eternal care Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at his home.
Born January 18, 1929 in Monterey, VA, he was a son of the late Justin T. and Bessie Lou Propst Smith. He served with the US Army during the Korean War and was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for more than 30 years.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. David’s United Church of Christ in Hanover and was a former member of The Church of the Nazarene in Baltimore where he taught Sunday School and served as the superintendent. He attended the Baltimore School of the Bible.
In addition to his wife, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on August 21, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann Smith and her husband, Joseph G. Rowley of Freeland, MD; two sons, Allen Randolph Smith of Glen Rock, and Raymond Douglas Smith of Annapolis, MD; two brothers, Richard and Clemmitt Smith; and five sisters, Judy Bayliss, Carolyn Brovey, Pauline Frye, Bernice Garris, and Martha Newlin.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. David’s United Church of Christ,142 Hobart Road, Hanover with The Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Monday at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
