Joyce Elaine Alwine Kale

Joyce Elaine Alwine Kale, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Born on Thursday, April 30, 1931 in Spring Grove, she was a daughter of the late Percy M. Alwine and Nettie V. Riley Alwine Runk. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard F. Kale, who died in 2003; and two daughters, Christine Eltz and Teresa Kroft. A 1949 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Joyce was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and held several part-time jobs, but the job she loved the most was caring for her grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by three daughters, Laurie Noel and her husband, Steven, of New Oxford, Victoria Hagarman and her husband, Richard, and Michelle Smolko and her husband, Joseph, all of Hanover; 13 grandchildren, Emily, Annie, Jessica, Jamie, Dustin, Jakob, Jodi, Logan, Nathan, Rebecca, Jon, Sarah and Adam; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Nevin S. Alwine; a sister, Holly C. Darhower and her husband, Ronald, a son-in-law, Shane Eltz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 8, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the mass.
