Joseph A. Wilt, 68, of Glenville, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at York Hospital.
Born on Wednesday, February 6, 1948 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Llewellyn J. and Anna L. Hoover Wilt. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Wilt.
A 1966 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, he worked at P.H. Glatfelter for almost 40 years until his retirement at the age of 62. After graduating high school, he served 3 years in the United States Navy in the division of The Seabees and was a member of the VFW post 5265 of Spring Grove and of the Amvets post 22 of Hanover. Farming was his biggest passion and it brought him a lot of happiness and joy to be able to have done it all of his life. Joseph enjoyed activities like butchering pigs, collecting antiques and cars, and tinkering and painting a lot of the neat stuff that he would find in his travels. He always had a project and liked to be kept busy.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Wilt and his wife, Annie, of Abbottstown and Thomas Wilt and his wife, Darlene, of Hanover; two daughters, Kimberly Myers and her husband, Jeremy, and Michelle Vogel and her husband, Matthew, both of Hanover; eight grandchildren, June, Everett, Travis, Logan, LeeAnn, Matthew II, Annabelle, and Emmet; one brother, Michael Wilt and his wife, Susan, of Spring Grove; and three sisters, Mary Dehoff and her husband, John, and Anna Lovett, and her husband, Lonnie, all of Spring Grove and Carolyn Trone of Hanover.
A funeral will be held at 10am on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
