Services: A service to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Caler will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Panebaker Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Kevin Oreweiler and Bob Larkin officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be John Trostle, Andrew Trostle, Kristie Wentz, Brian Prince, Matt Miller and Adam Caler.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-8:30pm Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the funeral home.
Joseph D. Caler, 92, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, August 22, 2008 from his home surrounded by his family.Born, June 5, 1916 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Joseph D.C. and Lillie I. Cole Caler. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Caler, Jr., five sisters and three brothers. After 31 years of service with Emeco Industries, he retired in 1981 as a supervisor. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was a life member of the Hanover VFW Post #2506 and a life member of the Pennville Fire Company. He enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and was an avid Southwestern football and wrestling fan for more than 35 years. He loved watching his sons play softball and spending time telling stories to his grandchildren.Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Mary A. Trish Caler; five sons, Michael Caler of Appomattox, VA, Daniel Caler, Andrew Caler, both of Hanover, William Trostle of Spring Grove and Steven Trostle of York; two daughters, Kathryn Prince of Glenville and Laurie Wagaman of McSherrystown; one sister, Ruthetta Laughman of Hanover; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
