John Thomas Moncrief, 77, of Hanover, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Thursday, April 11, 1946 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Lippy) Moncrief. He was the loving husband of Shirley Ann (Mowrer) Moncrief, to whom he was married on May 16, 1971 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
John was a 1964 graduate of Eichelberger High School and attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and Penn State University. He retired from JCPenney after 43 years of service, and was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School, served as an usher and was a member of the Church Council and Christian Family Committee. John enjoyed gardening, antiquing, riding bikes, playing cards and going to dinner theaters with friends. John lived a full life and he was always smiling.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, survivors include his children, Thomas Moncrief of Monroe, NC and his wife, Michelle, Bill Moncrief and his wife, Dana, of Eldersburg, MD, and Ann (Moncrief) Schuchart and her husband, Brock, of Salisbury, MD. He adored visiting with his grandchildren, Chris and Caitlin Moncrief, and Daelyn Schuchart. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Moncrief and his wife, Sandra, of Rochester, NY and Robert Moncrief of Cleveland, OH.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on August 12, 2023 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, prior to the service, in the church parlor.
