Services: A memorial service will be held at 11am, Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Theodore E. Bowers officiating. The service will begin with Masonic Rites being rendered by Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM. Burial will be held privately in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Littlestown with Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.
Visitation: No visitation is planned a this time.
John J. Strevig, 85, of Hanover, loving husband of Naomi Wampler Strevig, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Homewood at Plum Creek. Born on September 1, 1923 in Westminster, MD, he was a son of the late John A.W. and Aggie Miller Strevig. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Crom, Mary Peffer, Agnes Selby and Lilly Johnson and two brothers, George W. Strevig and Noah W. Strevig.A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the Littlestown VFW Post 6954. He and his wife previously owned the Villa Pizza in Littlestown and he later retired from Littlestown School District, having served 11 years as the maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Redeemer United Church of Christ, a life member of Littlestown Fish and Game, and was a past president of the Littlestown Senior Citizens Club. A devoted and active Mason and Shriner, he was a member of the Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM; Hanover Royal Arch #310, where he was a past High Priest, member of the Zembo Shrine Club, the Red Cross of Constantine, the York Rite College #156, Allied Degrees of Washington, DC, the Masonic Order of Bath, the Masonic Order of Cork, College of Rites, the Philalethes Society, Erin Council #6, Council of Anointed Kings, Order of Silver Trowel, Knights Preceptor Order. He was a past Thrice Illustrious Master, past commander of the Bethel Commandery #98 and past President of the Bethel Commandery Association, past Division #11 Commander, past Sovereign Master of the Sovereign Council #103, past President and Treasurer of the Central Penn Scottish Rite Club, past secretary, treasurer and director of the York Rite Association, and was a past President of the High Twelve Club, where he was a High Twelvian of 2002. In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his two sons, John A. Strevig and his wife Judy, of Bloomsburg and Steve C. Strevig and his wife Elaine, of Hanover; four grandchildren, Gregory, Andrew, Jennifer and Emily; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Amanda and Rebecca; two sisters, Hazel Randall of Arizona and Doris Decker of Hanover and many nieces and nephews.
