John W. Mccarty

Rev. John W. McCarty, 82, of Hanover, beloved husband of Nancy Moore McCarty, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, April 22, 2016 at his home.

Born on Tuesday, July 4, 1933 in Wells, Texas, he was the son of the late William A. and Mattie Beasley McCarty. He was a graduate of the Appalachian Bible College in Mount Hope, WV and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN.

Rev. McCarty was a Baptist minister and was the pastor of churches in the Appalachian Mountain region which included West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. He served with the US Navy and was an electrician aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin during the Korean War. He was a member of Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 55 years, are five children, David McCarty and his wife, Anita, of Hendersonville, NC, Susan Risser and her husband, Paul, of Aspers, Daniel McCarty of Rochester, NY, Hannah Grace of Chambersburg, and Deborah Haynes McNett and her husband, Jeffry, of Beckley, WV; and ten grandchildren, Priscilla, Benjamin, Abigail and Hannah Risser, Robert and Kelsea Haynes, and Ernest, Edgar, Edward and Ector McCarty.

The funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Hope Baptist Church, 6450 Hope Way, Hanover with Pastor Allen G. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 noon Tuesday at the church.
