John Filus, 62, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Hanover Hospital.
Born on Monday, July 4, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late John and Anna Skok Filus. A 1973 graduate of Gettysburg High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, in 1977, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and later earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from York College.
For many years, John was a quality control engineer with Hanover Foods and Unilever in Owensboro, KY. Most recently, he was a policy specialist with the USDA – Food Safety Inspection Services in Omaha, NE and Washington, DC. He was a lifelong Lutheran and had attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on York Street.
Survivors include his loving companion, Jennifer V. Moody; a son, John D. Filus of Owensboro, KY; two brothers, Stephen Filus and his wife, Patricia, of Middleburg Heights, OH and Peter Filus of Spring Grove; four nephews, Joshua Filus of Chicago, IL, Daniel Filus of Watertown, NY, Zachary Filus of Inman, SC and Jeremy Filus of Spring Grove; and a niece, Sarah Filus of Nashville, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm Friday, February 2, 2018 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
