John D. Evans, 70, of Hanover, husband of Doris Dashiell Evans, died at home on October 4, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Sterling Evans, Sr. and Dorothy Tinkler Evans Armacost. He grew up in Westminster, MD and spent many years in Dover, DE before moving to Hanover three years ago. A 1957 graduate of Westminster High School, he attended the University of Maryland and later had a successful career in business form sales, working with Moore Business Forms and retiring from Delta Forms in Wilmington, DE.
Mr. Evans served with the US Air Force and was a member of the Delaware Veterans “DelVets” Post # 2 and the First United Methodist Church of Hanover. A devoted family man, he was a man of many talents; enjoying golf, dancing, gardening, woodworking, and traveling, which included trips to the beach. He was a kind man with a strong character and a quick smile.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 47 years, is a son, Michael D. Evans and his wife Lisa of Rhode Island; a daughter, Beth Wisner and her husband Wade of Hanover; two grandchildren, Ben and Kate Wisner both of Hanover; a sister, Linda Martin and her husband Vernon of Hampstead, MD; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Wayne Taylor of Salisbury, MD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Sterling Evans, Sr. and his step-father, Willard Armacost.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Hanover with The Rev. Thomas H. Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 – 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
