The family will receive friends and share memories from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, August 14, 2009 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
Joel Anthony Szwoyer, 61, lifelong resident of Hanover, died peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.Born September 17, 1947 in Danville, he was the only child of the late Howard Joel and Edith Marie Gephart Szwoyer. A 1965 graduate of Hanover High School, he was affiliated with his family’s business, Szwoyer Beverage, for many years. He collected classic cars, had a passion for street rods and was a member of the National Street Rod Association. He was also a member of the Hanover Moose Lodge #227, the Hanover Republican Club and the AmVets Chapter #22. Survivors include his fiance’, Sharon Higgs of Hanover; his children, Michelle Shearer and her husband Jared, Eric Szwoyer and his wife Heather, Kathy King and her husband Jason, Troy Szwoyer, all of Hanover, and Tamara Szwoyer of Red Lion; and six grandchildren.
Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonia Avenue, York PA 17403.
