Joan Byroad Cooper

Joan Byroad Cooper, of Silver Spring, MD, entered into God’s eternal care Thursday, August 9, 2012 at her home.

Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Irene Rotz and step-daughter of the late Gary Rotz, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Wilson I. Cooper, Jr., who died in 1978 and a brother, Robert Byroad. Joan was a devoted longtime member of Montgomery Hills Baptist Church in Silver Spring and occasionally attended First United Methodist Church in Hanover. She enjoyed traveling and reading.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jackie A. Spadt and her husband, Don, of Hanover, and Janet M. Cooper and her husband, Larry Greenfield, of Ivanhoe, IL; five grandchildren, Kimberly Healy of Littlestown, Cooper Spadt of Hanover, Eric Spadt of Nesquehoning, PA, and Shannon and Megan Greenfield, both of Chicago; five great-grandchildren, Casey, Mackenzie, Connor, Madison and Andrew; and one great-great-grandson, Ben.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Montgomery Hills Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Montgomery Hills Baptist Church, 9727 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
