Jerome E. “Jet” Thomassy, 71, of Hanover, beloved husband of Milly Ditzler Thomassy, passed away doing what he loved, hunting, on Monday, October 16, 2017.
Born on Tuesday, December 18, 1945 in Richmond, VA, he was a son of the late Dr. George E. Thomassy and Gertrude F. Hemler Thomassy. He was a 1964 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and later graduated from Williamsport Community College. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts.
Jerome was the owner of Thomassy Automotive and Archery for 30 years and was later employed by Hanover Hospital. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a life member of McSherrystown Fish and Game. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and archery. He was a four time State Champion Archer and was the 1980 Champion of the Vegas Shoot. He will be long remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 48 years, are three children, Scott E. Thomassy and his companion, Dolly Rinehart, of York, Lisa C. Smith and her husband, Michael, and Brian C. Thomassy , all of Hanover; seven grandchildren, Joshua E. Timmins, Jenna N. Thomassy, Emily C. Smith, Jessica L. Thomassy, Hailey E. Smith, Madelyn P. Rinehart, and Jonathan S. Thomassy; a great-grandson, Richard E. Timmins; three brothers, George Thomassy and his wife, Carole, of Stamford, CT, Robert Thomassy and his wife, Linda, of Hanover, and William “Doc” Thomassy and his wife, Kathy, of New Oxford; a sister, Dill Arbogast and her husband, Terry, of Floyd, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 AM Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Joshua Timmins, Doug Myers, Dale Welk, Phil Nell, Stewart Witherow, Scott Fogle, Randy Brady and Pete Lawrence.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church.
