Jason Coward

Jason Coward, Jr., 16, of Hanover, died Sunday, October 5, 2014 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A son of Jason Coward, Sr. of Clarksville, TN and Melissia D. Schaeffer of FL, he was in the class of 2016 at South Western High School. He was formerly employed at Bill Bateman’s Restaurant and enjoyed volunteering at the Haunted Mill where he had a lot of fun with his friends. He was very active and did not like to stay idle. He would rather be outside on his scooter, going to the beach or riding at the skate park than sitting inside playing video games. Skillful with his hands, he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on motorcycles and cars and had career goals of welding. Very assertive and determined, he was an outgoing, humorous teenager who loved to clown around and make people laugh. He had a special bond with Sampson “Sammy”, the family’s Shiapoo, who was a devoted companion who accompanied him on their last ride together.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Connor Coward of West Virginia; two sisters, Rachel Coward of Sykesville, MD and Sadie Lee Schaeffer of West Virginia; paternal grandmother, Barbara Coward of Hanover; maternal grandparents, Doug and Jeanne Schaeffer of West Virginia; uncles, Brent Coward and his wife, Mary of Bethel Springs, TN, and Troy, Shane, Allen, Jonathan and Daniel Schaeffer; an aunt, April Leader; cousin, Cole Savage of Bethel Springs, TN and many other cousins.

The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Drive, Hanover.

Memorial contributions may be made to Army Emergency Relief Fund, 200 Stovall Street, Room 5S33 Alexandria, VA 22332.
